Hello, my name is Abeni. I am a wife to a supportive husband and mother to three wonderful children who keep me quite busy daily. As a mother, I have such a special appreciation for women during pregnancy and childbirth. My profound appreciation comes from lacking the support during my own personal birth. I never experienced the support of having a doula, although I do believe I would have benefited greatly to prevent the unfavorable outcomes I experienced.

I have always had a passion for supporting women and birth but my journey to becoming a doula happened by chance. A family member discovered that she was expecting and to my surprise, suggested that I be her doula for her upcoming birth.  I was so honored that she chose me to support her during a special event. At this moment I began to dive deeper into all things birth and decided to officially train and pursue my dreams. In my opinion, pregnancy itself is beautiful and bringing a new baby into the world is nothing short of a miracle.

My role as a doula is not to persuade your decisions but to make sure that you are heard and requests are met with an open heart. I believe all mothers should and can benefit from having a knowledgeable person in the room with them, who can be a cheerleader for the whole family. I want to be able to give moms a chance to really think about the kind of birth she chooses to have in a safe and calm way free from judgement. I want moms, along with their partners to be confident in and relaxed during such a memorable moment.

Along with being a supporter of empowering birth experiences, I am also a huge supporter of breastfeeding. I am a Certified Lactation Counselor but will support all feeding choices. I am able to communicate via American Sign Language (ASL) and am passionate about building bridges between the Deaf community and birthing world.  I am happy to be able to offer my doula services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients, and their family members. I am trained in pregnancy and infant loss as a PAIL doula. I am certified through DONA and am here to answer any questions that you may have to help you make the right decision for you and your family.
